Met Gala 2024: Alia Bhatt Blossoms In Sabyasachi Saree, Seamlessly Blending The Theme and Indian Heritage
The elaborate piece featured a train and a bejewelled blouse with emeralds, pearls, sapphires and more
Alia Bhatt’s look embodied a garden in full bloom as she arrived at the Met Gala red carpet in a custom-made Sabyasachi piece.
Marking her second appearance at the annual event, the former Harper’s Bazaar Arabia cover star adorned a floral saree by the Indian designer, which took 1965 man-hours and a team of 163 craftsmen and embroiderers to bring to life.
The mint green ensemble that beautifully incorporated the night’s theme, Garden of Time, featured a train, hand embroidered with silk floss, beads, sequins, semi-precious stones, as well as a fringe encompassing the saree with glimmering glass beads.
A testament to Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s close attention to detail, the bejewelled blouse was encrusted with emeralds, Basra pearls, tourmalines, and multi-coloured sapphires.
Sharing glimpses on Instagram from her walk on the red carpet, the Bollywood actress explained how the piece paid homage to this year’s theme while taking inspiration from her culture: “It was a call to the Garden of Time – an ode to art and eternity. Timelessness is endless, and we acknowledge that things crafted with time and care can last forever. In our journey for an Indian interpretation of this universal theme, the outfit took on a life of its own.”
The ensemble was paired with Sabyasachi High Jewellery’s Bengal Royal collection with tourmalines, sapphires, emeralds, and diamonds. She completed the look with blush-toned Make-Up and a curly updo with an elegant headpiece.
The Gangubai Kathiawadi actress marked her Met Gala debut in 2023 with a pearl-studded white gown by Nepalese-American fashion designer Prabal Gurung.
