Main Character Moves: Introducing Christine Quinn as HarpersBazaarArabia.com’s New Columnist

Keep your head high and your heels higher… in her first column, The Selling Sunset star, author and entrepreneur shares how the ultimate power move can often be the way you dress

I didn’t get to where I am in my life by playing it safe.

I will go to my grave swearing by the power of statement dressing – especially for New York Fashion Week. I always look forward to NYFW. It’s one of my favourite cities, bustling with hustlers, creative thinkers, entrepreneurs, game-changers, and the best and brightest in the industry. I feel re-inspired and rejuvenated whenever I’m in the city, and I love connecting with friends, networking with designers, and celebrating another fabulous season of fashion.

As I strategise my approach for this upcoming season, truth be told, I take inspiration from myself. I use a fashion week as a chance to tell the world – and this community – exactly who I am in this next chapter of my life.

Having just signed to IMG Worldwide following my runway debut with Balenciaga in May, I am so excited to continue evolving my appreciation for aesthetics and fashion, contributing to the industry I’ve always longed to join, and creatively collaborating with designers whose influences have largely shaped my view on the art of style.

But let’s face it, dressing for success is easier said than done. There are so many factors that come into play while trying to become the most confident boss babe version of yourself through your wardrobe choices. So start off by creating new daily habits that will take you to where you want to be. Things as simple as organising your outfits the night before, snatching your hair in a cute bun in the morning and journalling your goals can make a difference. Recognising the little things you have accomplished matters. It’s all about progress – and documenting your progress is an important part of being grateful for how far you have come to find your sartorial self.

If you read my book How To Be A Boss B*tch, you know that in order to get the life you want and truly deserve you need to become your own main character, unapologetically pursuing your goals and aspirations. Show up as the version of yourself who didn’t come to sit in the second row. You’re taking centre stage. If you put effort and energy into curating looks that make you command the gaze of all eyes in the room, that’s exactly what will happen. Be bold and fearless with fashion, and develop your own personal touch that highlights your individuality. Make people stop and stare, and be gagging for more.

Still with me?

Let’s recap: don’t be afraid to lean in and dauntlessly dare to be the fashion mogul you look up to. Find inspiration within yourself. Use fashion as an opportunity to manifest the person you want to become, and see it as a way for you to express to the world who you truly are. And remember, if you feel embarrassed or question your wardrobe choices, others will clock it.

However, if you stand tall, hold your head high (and your heels higher) and find your groove, everyone else is going to wonder where you’ve been all of their lives. So step out onto that concrete catwalk in style and let the upcoming fashion season also be your reintroduction.

I’ll see you at the shows!
