The jury is still out on how many days workers in the private sector will have off

Time to book up those staycations! The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) officially announced the Eid holidays for employees working in the private sector yesterday.

But despite the excitement at having a pro-longed break from work, it still remains unclear which dates will actually be public and private holidays.

Eid Al Fitr 2024: Is Next Friday A Holiday For The UAE Private Sector?

The break begins on Monday, April 8 (Ramadan 29). If the first day of Eid is on Tuesday, then offices will remain closed till Thursday, April 11.

However, if the first day of Eid is on Wednesday, the holiday for the private sector extends till Friday, April 12.

The exact date of Eid Al-Fitr is subject to the sighting of the moon. However, based on astronomical calculations, Ramadan is expected to last 30 days this year, marking Tuesday, April 9, as the end of the holy month.

Therefore, residents can expect either six or nine days off depending on the moon sighting.

Earlier, UAE authorities revealed the official dates for the Eid Al-Fitr holiday for public sector employees.

Government employees will also enjoy a week-long break, commencing on Monday, April 8 until Sunday, April 14, 2024.

Standard work operations will resume on Monday, April 15.
