Miss Universe 2024 Bahrain’s Shereen Ahmed Takes Home An Inspirational Award

This year’s dazzling spectacle saw successes from contestants across the region, as they truly made history at Miss Universe 2024

The 73rd edition of the Miss Universe 2024 pageant took place this weekend and did not disappoint. Taking home this year’s title was Denmark’s Victoria Kjær Theilvig – who was officially crowned Miss Universe 2024 by the previous pageant winner, Nicaragua’s Sheyniss Palacios. The 21-year-old dancer, entrepreneur and animal rights activist became the first Danish contestant to receive the honour. Nigeria’s Chidimma Adetshina also made her country proud as this year’s first runner up.

2024 introduced significant changes to the competitions rules, with the Miss Universe pageant event allowing married woman, mothers and those of all ages to compete in its glamorous world. Previously, only women between the ages of 18-28 were permitted to enter. However, in September 2023, the Miss Universe Organisation announced they would be removing the upper age limit for contestants – taking a step towards a more diverse and inclusive event.

Miss Universe Bahrain: Shereen Ahmed Wins The Silver Voice For Change Award

In its glittering finale, 29-year-old Bahrain beauty Shereen Ahmed was announced as one of the seven Silver winners of the Voice for Change award, for her work with Hope Amel Bahrain. Shereen supports single mothers and offers them hope and motivation through her inspirational outreach – Hope-Amel UAE is a community which dedicates its love and support to mothers in need, aspiring to spread hope through simple acts of kindness and empathy. 

The award was presented after the preliminary round of the competition, which unveiled 126 contestants from around the globe modelling stylish swimsuits, captivating evening gowns and their national costumes. This round was followed by the dedication of an array of prizes awarded to deserving individuals and organisations.

Shereen commanded the stage, turning heads in a radiant, red embellished gown by fashion visionary Harvey Cenit – also smashing the swimwear segment, she walked the runway in a modest purple suit.

Joining Shereen as Silver winners for this award were Raegan Rutty of the Cayman Islands, Snit Tewoldemedhin of Eritrea, Matilda Wirtavuori of Finland, Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, Saran Bah of Guinea and Anouk Eman of Aruba.

Sharing a heartfelt video entitled ‘Hope for Single Mothers’, Shereen proved her passion for providing vital resources for single mothers. The Voice for Change 2024 is an incredible achievement for Bahrain, as the Filipino-Bahraini model took to Instagram with a powerful caption: “This is for all the hardworking single moms out there.”

Miss Universe Egypt: Logina Salah Makes History

The 2024 pageant also witnessed Miss Universe Egypt’s Logina Salah make history, as she led her country into the top 30 at the grand finale of the Miss Universe competition – marking the first time that Egypt has placed at the pageant in 73 years.

The inspirational model, influencer and talented makeup artist has had already had a strong start to her pageant journey and utilises her platform to motivate and uplift others. Embracing her vitiligo, Logina shared her personal journey to skin positivity, striving to break stereotypes when it comes to beauty standards.

Miss Universe UAE: Emilia Dobreva Becomes The First UAE Contestant

Kosovo-born UAE resident Emilia Dobreva also made her mark at this year’s Miss Universe pageant, becoming the first official UAE contestant to compete in the glamorous spectacle. The UAE made its official Miss Universe debut as they crowned Emilia with the title back in October, 2024.

The fashion model walked the Miss Universe 2024 finale in a glamorous, gilded gown curated by Dubai-based fashion house Atelier Zuhra.
