Snow in the UAE? Hailstorm Hits Al Ain and Abu Dhabi

It might be time to get those puffer jackets and rain boots out as the storm continues into Monday

It was a chilly start to the week for UAE residents on Monday, February 12, as heavy rain and hail were reported in parts of the country.

Earlier, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) had announced that rain and thunder would hit the UAE, and showers are expected to continue until Tuesday.

Netizens took to social media, sharing pictures and videos of gloomy skies… and balls of white ice raining down upon neighborhoods throughout the Emirates.

It was particularly cold in the west of the country, in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, as videos of residents experiencing a hail storm and roads covered in ice circulated online. Streets in Sweihan and Al Dhafra areas were covered in hail, some as large as golf balls.

If you’re headed out for the day, don’t forget to get into your best winter chic as the lowest recorded temperature in the UAE on Monday dropped to a chilly 7.6°C.

Dubai Police issued a public safety warning due to the weather conditions.

In an early morning public alert, Dubai Police said the emirate was “exposed to fluctuations in weather conditions” and advised members of the public to “stay away from beaches, avoid areas of valleys, torrent flows, and low places.”
